Photography Information & Frequently Asked Questions

Make sure your project reflects the theme “Together We Can”.

Photography entries should be mounted on sturdy cardboard. If your print is large, please make sure the final size, including the cardboard or mat is no larger than 11 inches by 14 inches.

Please do not frame your entry.

We have a new, simple entry form this year. Please fill one out for each entry. You can find them on-line to print, www.langranchpta.org/reflections or on the Reflections table near the library.

The entry form should be inside a transparent sheet protector and be able to slide in and out freely. Please do not put it under shrink-wrap with your photograph.

All entries must be the original and unassisted work of one student. Group projects are not accepted. Your artistic creation must be done on your own; however, parents are allowed to help you with the presentation requirements such as mounting, matting or shrink-wrapping. Adults can also teach the student how to operate the camera and utilize computer effects.

Q: Can I be in my photograph?
A: Yes, as long as you use a timer and set up the shot. Use a tripod or set the camera on a hard surface.

Q: May students submit computer-manipulated photographs?
A: Yes, you can add color, texture, fading almost anything you can imagine! Just don’t add in lettering, graphics or icons.

Q: Do all Photography entries have to be matted and shrink-wrapped?
A: Matting and shrink-wrapping are NOT required, however, the process does significantly protect your work.

You can create your own “mat” by covering a piece of sturdy cardboard with colored paper and affix your photograph or artwork securely to the front.

You can purchase a pre-made mat rather inexpensively from most craft stores in many standard sizes.

You can go to any framing store to get your work professionally matted, some also do shrink-wrapping.

Frames By You on Moorpark Road offers special discounts for Reflections projects. Shrink-wrapping is several dollars extra. Please try to submit your artwork to them a week before the Lang Ranch entry collection dates.
